OUR HISTORY
ubiq was established in April 1966 as University Bookshop (UBS), later rebranded to ubiq to reflect our modern identity.
From a small shop on the University of Auckland campus, we’ve grown into New Zealand’s leading academic store, trusted by individuals, SMEs, large multinationals, and government departments. That small shop is still standing - our 'HQ' of sorts and the centre-point of the ubiq business.
The name ‘ubiq’ (pronounced you-bic or u-b-i-q) blends ‘ub’ from our past with ‘iq’ for intelligence, playing on the Latin word ‘ubique’.
account services
We have two permanent retail stores located at the University of Auckland and AUT city campuses, along with various pop-up stores at different institutions.
We are the official online stockists for institutions like Unitec, Northtec, Toi Ohomai Institute of Technology, and ACG Colleges.
We specialise in titles for students learning English and professional fields such as law, medicine, and business.
Our sales teams cater to the needs of both small and large institutions, offering services like title recommendations, order status reports, and credit facilities.
For further information, contact our Institutional Sales Team or ESOL Sales Team. Our experienced staff are here to help with any requests or specialist needs.
OUR COMMITMENT
ubiq is 100% New Zealand owned and operated. When you shop with us, you support students and contribute to their future.
Profits are reinvested into the company for redevelopment or returned to students at the University of Auckland, ensuring we remain cost-effective and efficient in supplying textbooks.
Ubiquitous, by definition:
"everywhere, all-over, wide-ranging" - just as knowledge, books & stories are everywhere, all-over, and spanning the globe.
