Helen Tau'au Filisi was born in Auckland, New Zealand to Samoan immigrant parents in the 1960's. She was educated in local schools in Mangere, South Auckland then went to the University of Auckland and graduated with a Masters in Geography. In the 1990's she taught high school students as an English teacher for several years and in that time began wrote 5 plays for local high school productions. She continued writing but was unable to publish her works. In the late 1990's she worked on education contracts specializing in Pasifika education for about 10 years before working in tertiary education firstly as a lecturer at AUT University between 2006-2009 and then joined Te Wananga o Aotearoa in 2010 an Indigenous Maori tertiary education institution and currently works there as a Degree learning advisor. In 2013, she graduated from AUT University with a Masters degree in Creative writing which sparked her writing interest but this time towards self publishing her works. Helen is happily married to Fritz and they live in Auckland with their three amazing children.
