Matariki Kanohi Poster
Poster Edition: 1
This is a bilingual poster with the names and meanings of the stars in the Matariki cluster: Waipunarangi, Ururangi, Matariki, Tupuarangi, Tupuanuku, Hiwa-i-te-rangi, Waiti, Waita and Pohutukawa. Seven names were given by Hamiora Pio of Ngati Awa for stars in the cluster. The different names of the stars are significant for Maori, as each individual has a defined purpose and is intrinsically connected with the Maori world. Their unique roles are explained in this poster. The illustrations personifying the stars are by Te Haunui Tuna.
