Description
The story of No:75 Squadron during the Second World War, a fighter pilot unit that included many New Zealanders. They flew more bombing missions than any other British heavy bomber unit.
The story is narrated by Henry Fanshaw, a bear who is a member of 75th Squadron and something of a squadron historian. He signed up in the 1970s but spoke to the men who served in the war, which is the story he relays here.
One of the key events was the awarding of the Victoria Cross to a member of the squadron, Jack Ward, who crawled out onto the wing of a plane in mid-air to put out a fire.
This book provides a highly readable account of the wider war in Britain, e.g. the Blitz, doodlebugs, carpet bombing of German cities.
