Mases room is always messy and needs tidying up. Mase teaches us how to count in Samoan while taking us on his journey of cleaning up his bedroom.
This story reflects on childrens experiences of cleaning their own room, allowing for meaningful social learning connections to be made. The integration of the Gagana Samoa focus, counting in Samoan, throughout the text allows the reader to safely explore the words and develop understanding. The story also contains simply constructed text with rich Illustrations that encourage good opportunities for discussion.
The Milas My Gagana Series are a result of author Dahlia Malaeulu's combined love for her tamaiti, her Samoan Culture and her passion for learning. The first versions of the stories were created as resources for her own tamaiti to introduce, build confidence and strengthen their overall connection to our Samoan culture through learning basic Gagana Samoa. Since then the Series has developed into six stories, with the first three stories to officially be launched in May 2019.
Based on relatable everyday contexts, each story is filled with engaging Gagana Samoa learning opportunities for all tamaiti and can be used to introduce or develop understanding of basic Gagana Samoa concepts. The stories also provide a tangible resource for our fanau to support the development of Gagana Samoa within their own fanau and are easy resources for all faia`oga to use and develop their own confidence when exploring basic Gagana Samoa.
