Kaupapa : Te kemu kupu reo Maori! / The reo Maori word game!

KAUPAPA is a word description board game for speakers and learners of te reo Maori. / KAUPAPA is a companion to any learners journey - beginners can use it to learn new words, and fluent speakers can thrive in a fast-paced, playful immersion environment.

KAUPAPA is designed in Aotearoa by Kura Rehia in collaboration with Maimoa Creative and Hemi Kelly (A Maori Phrase a Day), KAUPAPA is manufactured in Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland). Opting for sustainable materials and eco-friendly printing processes, we are proud to support our local economy and make sustainable choices with Papatuanuku in mind.

The game can be played by complete beginners with no reo, right through to fluent speakers - There are 3 versions of gameplay to suit each level, and you can have, for example, one team of fluent speakers and another team of total beginners, playing together at a level that challenges each of them.

Recommended 2-12 players (although there's not really an upper limit to how many can play at once) KAUPAPA is for 8+ years (in short - if you can read in English or te reo, you can play.)

KAUPAPA is a word description game, and there are two main mechanics: Describing words from a single category against the clock (similar to Articulate/Taboo/Charades), and Maui cards which operate like 'chance' cards. Maui cards reference purakau / traditional narratives, atua Maori and whakatauki / proverbs which change the gameplay and spice things up.
