Caimi Brevetti is design. Since its establishment, in 1949, its founder Renato Caimi was convinced that designing without protecting the invention was the wrong approach towards making beautiful and useful things.
Since then, through a gradual process of industrial evolution involving all of the strategic aspects of a company epitomising the Italian industrial system, Caimi Brevetti has providedthrough Renatos four sons, Gianni, Renzo, Franco and Giorgioa frame of reference for the way in which design has developed from being the technical language of objects to a structural element underpinning an entire production process.
The book you have in your hands tells this story, thanks also to the fil rouge of Raoul Iacomettis photographs, putting front and centre not only the people who have constituted its main characters but also the local area that has served as the setting. The other essential characters are all of the designers who have not only collaborated with the company in the past and present but who constitute the companys perspective on the world, because in order to design well, it is crucial to start with listening, and then to try to interpret what has been heard.
Because, as Gillo Dorfles declares, that is what patenting means, being worthy of ones own time, without jumping the gun, given that, as of today, we do not know the effects of doing so.
