Emergency Psychiatry

This deals with the clinical application of psychiatry in a diverse range of emergency* situations. It contains succinct evidence-based, yet practical, advice on acute psychiatric issues from experienced clinicians. The wide range of topics covered includes: antipsychotic medication use, care on the psychiatric intensive care unit (PICU), safeguarding, perinatal psychiatry and military and civilian trauma. There are chapters on emergencies in children, the learning disabled, older people, plus a specialised chapter on the psychiatric assessment of deaf people. Conversely, it also includes a chapter on medical emergencies on psychiatric wards. This book is concise and readable, yet sufficiently in-depth to lend itself as a reference resource.
