During the later half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century in England, several private collections of ethnographic artifacts were assembled from the pool of "artificial curiosities" and souvenirs that had been circulation in Great Britain and the continent ever since the days of the first European explores. Among these private collections, that of William Oldman was recognised as a comprehensive one, especially for its Pacific component. This book illustrates and describes some of these Polynesian artifacts.
