Heritage Paintings : Touponui-a-tia : New Zealand

Created from decades of meticulous investigation and research for her love of the Central North Island and Lake Taupo environment, it was this collection that Val saw as the peak of her artistic career. This publication fulfils her wish in bringing the entire collection back together.

The “Millennium 2000 Exhibition – A celebration of Feather & Fibre” comprises sixty ‘paired paintings’. The ‘Historical Collection’acknowledges the contributions of Ngati Tuwharetoa, blending legend, their history, their taonga and historical treasures. These treasures are woven into the companion collection, the ‘Heritage Collection’. Each painting contains rich cultural and natural heritage, containing NZ birds, Maori heritage, Raranga Whakairo and a small landscape related to the area.
