Description
This book is on kumara crops and in particular the pest and disease issues aligned to them - and is titled Nga porearea me nga matemate o nga maara kumara. It has been quite some time in its gestation but we utilised the lockdown time to finalise its content; 74 pages, all in colour and including pictures of all the plant health issues and more. It was formally launched at Uawa/Tolaga Bay in Early October at a hui sponsored by the Maori Womens Welfare League ladies of the region. The book introduces the kumara crop from the perspective of being grown in Aotearoa/New Zealand, its alignment to Te Ao Maori followed by sections on the various pest, disease, and virus problems which can affect the crop during production or kumara during storage. This will be an important support publication for everyone wanting to grow kumara or learn more about the traditional and contemporary techniques used in their management.
