Description

This book and dvd recounts the story of six soldiers from Tainui, five who went to war and one who didn't. Through interviews compiled with the whanau, personal accounts of the legacy left by the veterans and the conscriptee are revealed. These stories are the whanau's recollections, in their own words, and are treasured memories they are willing to share widely. Gathered by Kingitanga stalwarts Tom Roa and Maehe Paki, questions are asked "Why did these boys go to war" and "What was life like for the family, before, during and after the war?" Answers given provide a rare glimpse into mana, into the Kingitanga, and attitudes before, during, and after World War I from a Waikato-Maniapoto perspective. Please note that there are a number of typographical errors noted in the form of an errata, which the authors hope does not detract from the readers' enjoyment of the book.
