Tenga of Waikuta

Ko Tenga o Waikuta is a redraft and full Maori translation of a 1992 educational resource written by late leading educationalist, Kelvin Smythe, and featuring photos by the world-renowned photographer, Ans Westra.

Ko Tenga o Waikuta presents a visual diary of two days in the life of Tenga Rangitauira, a 7 year old Maori boy from Rotorua. In his own words, Tenga describes his family, kura, and friends as well as social and cultural activities including tangihanga (funeral ceremony), the star Venus (Tawera) and the famous love story of Hinemoa and Tutanekai.
