Description

The masterpiece of Lev Tolstoy and of the 19th century narrative, War and Peace constitutes a vast historical and epic fresco. With the Napoleonic campaign - Austerlitz, Borodino or the fire of Moscow - as a background, the story is told of two families of the Russian nobility, the Bolkonskis and the Rostovs, protagonists of a world that begins to stage its own disappearance.

Until a few years ago, all translations of War and Peace were based on the 1873 canonical edition. However, in 1983, the Soviet Academy of Sciences published what they called the "original edition," that is, the first version that Tolstoy wrote in 1866. It is the splendid translation of that original manuscript, by the hand of Gala Arias Rubio, that we publish in this volume.
