Like many artists, Catherine McIntyre created traditional art for decades before going digital. Despite the medium or specific tools used, the decision-making processes for working with both traditional and digital art are quite often the same. These working methods are the subject of this book. As an aesthetic guide to composition, color, texture, and all of the other means of communication that an artist has at their disposal, Visual Alchemy explores the creative process of using these tools to express an artistic vision digitally.
The book discusses the creative process; it's the part that comes after you have acquired the basic tools. It's the exploration, and what to do with those tools. The book is about ideas and how to express them, rather than the ins and outs of the software. A basic working knowledge of Photoshop would be best for the reader, but is not essential, as the ideas will apply to any digital program and to any medium.
