Extensively illustrated and based on the most up-to-date research, Contemporary Art Mexico highlights 110 of the most prominent players in Mexico's buzzing contemporary art scene, including seventy artists and forty personalities and institutions.
The artists, who have been selected for their relevance to local practice, their engagement with their peers and their international profiles, include such older-generation figures as Graciela Itrubide, Francisco Toledo and Eduardo Terrazas; hugely influential figures from the 1990s such as Gabriel Orozco, Francis Alys, Damian Ortega, Pedro Reyes, Teresa Margolles and Melanie Smith; and such emerging talents as Edgardo Aragon, Inaki Bonillas, Adriana Lara and Marco Rountree Cruz. Leading commercial galleries, curators, collectors and other key cultural figures are also explored. Critical essays by foremost critics and art historians include a review of the contemporary scene by Maria Minera; a perspective on the history of Mexican modern art by Daniel Garza Usabiaga; and an international appraisal by Tate Moderns Curator, International Art, Tanya Barson.
