A kiss is all it takes
to cast a shadow
over their courting.
He takes her, distant other,
by the hand and begins
to dance, to kiss,
setting in motion
her loss, like a chain reaction.
Four minutes
of gaping, of finding
an ache unspent,
of time unaccounted for.
They’re not alone.
Faraway as a black hole,
someone’s watching
this monochrome show.
Like a film, her body
sheets past his,
both of them whispers
pleading to move on.
